SUMMARY:Media Literacy at Connected Learning in Focus
DESCRIPTION:The ARC Centre of Excellence for the Digital Child is hosting a two day symposium\, Connected Learning in Focus @DigitalChildAu at QUT’s Kelvin Grove campus. \nConnected Learning in Focus @ Digital Child AU will bring together innovators in research\, industry and education to explore how emerging technology can be used to expand children’s access to participatory\, playful and creative learning. \nSeveral sessions have a strong media literacy focus.The keynote speaker is Rhianna Patrick\, a Torres Strait Islander radio personality and journalist who will speak about the representation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island communities in the media and how media literacy skills may be developed in response.  A session on day two will focus on media literacy for connected learning and features Alyssa Coursey from the National Film and Sound Archive\, Stephanie Smith from the Museum of Australian Democracy and Troy Merrit from startup Bitlink.  Other sessions feature Professor Mizuko Ito from the University of Southern California\, Cate McQuillen from Me Me Me productions and the producers of ‘Get Grubby TV’.
