SUMMARY:Developing media literacy using television and media
DESCRIPTION:These SBS Learn teacher resources encourage students to think critically about the importance of where we obtain information\, and how to analyse it. SBS drama Safe Home centres on Phoebe (played by Aisha Dee) who starts a new job at a family violence legal service where she learns about the impact of family violence on individuals and families. The resources Safe Home: Media reporting of family violence (Years 9-10) encourage students to critically analyse the way family and domestic violence is covered in the media. The resource Discover Australia’s First Fake News Story (Years 6-10) accompanies SBS interactive documentary K’gari\, debunking one of Australia’s first fake news story about the origins and naming of Fraser Island\, by exposing the largely untold Aboriginal account of events. The resource encourages students to explore new perspectives and to challenge their perceptions – and their sources of information.   \nWho is it for? Years 6-10  \nDate/Time: during Media Literacy Week   \nCost: Free
