DESCRIPTION:The NFSA flagship on site media literacy program – Media and Me –  offers a facilitated media literacy program that sparks curiosity\, develops critical thinking skills and empowers students to become confident media consumers through engaging discussion and guided exploration. Students explore how the Australian story is told and shaped through images\, sound and text across a range of media examples – including animation\, advertising\, video games\, social video\, film\, and music. They engage with media made for them\, ranging from early works to contemporary content from the NFSA collection and explore how these formats influence and engage audiences.\nMedia and Me is curriculum aligned to Australian Curriculum English\, HASS and Media Arts key learning areas\, while also supporting connections to cross-curriculum priorities.\nCurrent Programs:\nMedia and Me Primary (Years 4-6)\nMedia and Me (Year 7 and 8)\nMedia and Me (Year 9 and 10)\n\nOnsite in Canberra | $7 per student | 60-minute sessions | Mon-Fri\nBook now on Book Canberra Excursions

DESCRIPTION:Join the National Film and Sound Archive of Australia at Arc Cinema in Canberra for a screening of While We Watched (2022)\, a riveting documentary about the importance of independent news media and its relevance in an age of misinformation and competing arguments.   \nThe film explores the impact of news media during India’s 2019 parliamentary elections. It also serves as a catalyst for significant conversations about media literacy and our democracy in Australia. \nThis screening will be followed by a conversation with Dr Sora Park from the University of Canberra\, Samantha Maiden (News Limited)\, Karen Middleton (The Saturday Paper) and Ronald Mizen (Australian Financial Review) to celebrate Media Literacy Week.  \nWho is it for?
