Media Literacy Teacher Training with Kate and Jol Temple

freeJoin the Museum of Australian Democracy as they connect with authors Kate and Jol Temple to explore what is media literacy, why is it important and how can we support young people to build their critical thinking skills.
AUDIENCE: This free online event is for stage 2, 3 and 4 teachers.
ACTIVITY OUTLINE: This session will focus on news, social media, advertising and the power of books to start conversations. Kate and Jol will talk about their diverse collection of picture books, novels and an Un(real) podcast, sharing how they link to media literacy. They will explore practical examples of advertising, social media posts and news reports within their texts and consider how you can use these with young people. Teachers will also have an opportunity to ask questions and chat with these amazing authors.
SPECIAL GUESTS: Kate and Jol Temple have written over 26 books for kids from their bestselling Bin Chicken series to their International Jr Fiction dog detective series, The Underdogs, and oKate’s own middle grade novel, The Dangerous Business of Being Trilby Moffat.
