Media Literacy lessons at the NFSA

The National Film and Sound Archive (NFSA) offer dynamic on-site and digital learning programs that immerse students in the rich world of Australian film, television, radio, music and gaming.

Their flagship program – Media and Me offers a facilitated media literacy program that sparks curiosity, develops critical thinking skills and empowers students to become confident media consumers through engaging discussion and guided exploration. Students explore how the Australian story is told and shaped through images, sound and text across a range of media examples – including animation, advertising, video games, social video, film, and music. They engage with media made for them, ranging from early works to contemporary content from the NFSA collection and explore how these formats influence and engage audiences.

Media and Me is curriculum aligned to Australian Curriculum English, HASS and Media Arts key learning areas, while also supporting connections to cross-curriculum priorities.
