New Research on Adult Media Literacy in Australia Launched

New research supported by AMLA on Adult Media Literacy in Australia was launched today at the Museum of Australian Democracy at Old Parliament House. Co-authored by Associate Professor Tanya Notley, Dr Simon Chambers, Professor Sora Park and Professor Michael Dezuanni, the research examines Australian media literacy abilities and needs.

Senator David Pocock Provided opening remarks. He noted that media literacy is critical to ensure all Australians are able to identify and address harms associated with generative AI such as disinformation.

The report, ‘Adult Media Literacy in 2024: Australian attitudes, experiences and needs‘ is based on a survey of a representative sample of 3853 Australians. The study reveals that Australians have a low level of confidence in their media abilities and want media literacy support to be available to all citizens.
